Autumn Leaves

                                                                 Kia ora

This week Miss Fletcher gave us a science lesson about why the leaves on some trees change colour in the autumn and fall off the tree. We also were learning how to notice the colour, shape and texture of autumn leaves. Here is my poem.

Is the Earth like a hard boiled egg?

Kia ora
We are learning about what the Earth is like on the outside and the inside. We used hard-boiled eggs as mini-models for the earth. We got to design our own continents and islands on the outside of the egg shell. At the end of the experiment we got to eat the egg!

.Structure of the Earth Facts

hi.
Structure of the Earth Facts
We are learning about the structure of the Earth.
I learnt that the Earth is made up of 4 layers. The top layer is the crust. The crust is the outermost layer of the Earth. It is made of solid rocks. The mantle  is  the thickest layer of Earth and it is like a gooey, oozing chocolate pudding.  It is made mostly of oxygen, silicon and the heavier element magnesium. The Outer Core  and the Inner Core are the innermost layers of the Earth.  The outer core The core is made is liquid because it is so hot,  about 5000–6000oC, but the inner core remains solid iron and nickel because of the pressure pushing down on it from the layers above.

In class, we made our own clay models of Earth.  We identifiedeach layer by painting them in different colours.
Below are some pictures of our work.

A life form of a lemonfish

We have been learning how to write explanations and also
doing research about the living world so our teachers gave us this writing task. We learned what a fishbone diagram is and how to use a completed one to make our own using a life form of our choice. We had to organise the fact boxes by using MRS GREN which is an anagram which reminds you about what life forms do. Here is mine. I chose to write about a lemonfish (rig shark)
What I liked about this task: writing my sentences.

What was easy: getting help by friends.
